So its finally time to start planning your reception…

After much time, energy, and money spent on your event- now you have the additional headache of creating the perfect reception.  But do not worry, it can be fun, simple, and easy…

You know that you want to sway away from the typical ordinary reception that everyone seems to throw.  Although funds are running low and time is running out, there are still some great ways to create a fresh and contemporary event that none of your guests have experienced yet.

Pick an Appropriate Sized Venue

There will always be the issue of choosing between an outdoor or indoor reception. But lets face it, it rains in Oregon 9 months out of the year and even during summer, nights get really chilly.  So to save time, let’s focus on indoor venues. Depending on the size of your party you want to make sure the venue is appropriately sized. Most buildings have maximum capacity rules which you want to make sure to follow. However on the other hand, you want to make sure that the venue you choose  isn’t going to swallow your guests. No one likes huge empty spaces or gaps during the reception, they are awkward and uncomfortable. You want to create the feeling of intimacy and if you have booze flowing there is no better way to get your guest comfortable.

Remember : The smaller the venue you choose, the larger the party will appear. Just make sure you follow the maximum capacity rules.  OR Use great fun activity rentals, games, and more to fill a larger space (and add a buzz about the event!)

Pick a Venue Out of the Ordinary

Typically when choosing a venue the first thing that comes to mind is a ballroom or a hall, preferably at a hotel. However if you are looking to save money cross that option off your list. Going for a different type of venue will instantly save you cash. At first you might not dare even consider renting a bar or smaller reception space, but don’t write the idea off so quickly. Bars, barns, backyards, restaurants, parks, near by lakes or rivers, beaches, or warehouses are great alternative spaces, get creative with it.  Any of these venues will save you money. If you are worried about the venue being too different, discuss it with your event planner. A true event planner can transform any venue into the reception of your dreams.

Remember: different isn’t bad, in fact it is what will make your reception stand out from the rest.

Spice it Up With New Attractions

Typical receptions include a DJ, dance floor, customized table setting, but why not give you guests more options then just dancing and eating.
